About

A neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood analysis of what locals say on Reddit. Personal project, methodology and sources linked on every page.

What this is

The questions people actually ask about a place, answered from what locals actually said. Each page picks one question (say, where to live in Edinburgh), mines public discussion for the answer, and publishes it ranked, sourced, and inspectable.

Not a review site. Not a property service. Not a "we". There is no company behind this, just a developer working on street- and neighbourhood-related things.

How it works

Threads are collected from public discussion, primarily Reddit. A constrained-output classifier tags each comment for location (against an OpenStreetMap-derived neighbourhood gazetteer), sentiment, and topic. Rankings use a Bayesian-weighted positive ratio: small samples are shrunk toward the city-wide rate, so a 5-of-5 positive area doesn't outrank a 70-of-100 positive one. Per-page methodology lists the corpus size, the classifier prompts, and the limitations.

Bias

Reddit skews younger, more online, and more rental-focused than a general population. Pages here are structured reads of one dataset, not the truth about a city. Read them as signal, not census.
